Explanations on Family and Attachments
The objectives of this conference are:
To understand what family is and the mistaken concepts we have about it.
To see the value it has in esoteric work.
The problems it causes in the development of esoteric work.
The stagnation and conflicts generated by attachment.
We possess three families:
The first type of family is related to the external world, where we find our Physical Body and Personality. The Physical Family: father, mother, siblings, spouse, children, uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents, grandchildren, etc.
A second family related to the Soul, or Mind, or Energy. This part of the soul is what we will call our inner world. The Psychological Family: all our Ego or ways of being, the 97% of Essence or Consciousness trapped.
The third family is related to the Spirit or Consciousness; it is the part that we will call our inner world of the inner world.
The Real Family: the 3% of free Consciousness, to which we will add all that we rescue from the psychological prison. Each of these psychological elements we possess has a real and true part trapped within it.
Physical Family
Undoubtedly, we all need the physical body to exist and do the Work.
We all have the right to have 108 human physical bodies (Law of Return).
This implies that we must be born 108 times. Therefore, we will have 108 mothers and 108 fathers.
It also implies that we must pay for the different bodies that have been given to us (Laws of Return and Recurrence).
Upon birth, the human being is defenceless, which is why we must have a mother to care for us until we can defend ourselves.
We call people born of the same mother brothers and sisters. Which of all the 108 mothers we have had is the true one? Which of the 108 fathers we have had is the true one? Which of all the thousands of siblings we have had are the true ones?
We return in the seed of our descendants. For the reproduction of the species, it is necessary to find a partner.
The creation of the Existential Bodies of Being will occur through sex, and for this, we must have a stable partner.
From the above, we see the importance of having a physical family.
The wife is a sister who is collaborating with us, and we with her.
Children are siblings whom we committed to helping.
We see people on the street as strangers because they were not born in our house. We do not understand that they are our siblings. Is our house not planet Earth?
Attachments prevent us from understanding that all human beings are siblings to each other and no other bond or title exists.
Psychological Family
The inner family is made up of elements called defects, which manage the different energies of the machine's centers. This inner family was formed by the misuse of the Creative Sexual Energy. All untransformed impressions, due to lack of concentration, create more psychological defects; later, with the passage of time, we have created a legion. There are defects of all types, but each one has its own percentage of sparks or trapped essence, formed by the totality of energy it has absorbed throughout its existence. This happens every time we feed the defect.
The sum of them is our psychological family, or inner world. All defects are synthesized into the Seven Root-Defects: Sloth, Greed, Lust, Pride, Wrath, Gluttony, and Envy. As Virgil said, even if we had a palate of steel and a thousand tongues, we could not fully describe them. These defects are all our vices, desires, mistakes, sufferings, pleasures, reactions, etc. And they are dearer to us than our own physical children. Hence the attachment we have to them. You will see this, and verify it, as you progress in the work of Psychological Death.
True Family
We call it the true family because it will eternally exist. Our Being is constituted by many parts, all of them are unfoldings of our Father:
God as Father represents our wisdom.
God as Mother is our Essence, our raw material, our Creative Energy of the Holy Spirit, our Love.
God as Son symbolizes Justice, the Psychological Trainer, the giver of Light (Wisdom) and Fire (Love). These three primary forces unfold within us into three others which are:
Atman. The Intimate, the Ineffable, the Warrior.
Budhi. Our Divine Soul, the Valkyrie.
Manas. The Christ Will, the Word. Our Human Soul. There are also:
The Inner Christ.
The Twelve Apostles.
The Twenty-Four Elder Bakers.
The Four Deva-Rajas, etc., etc., etc.
As we work on the Three Factors, and the Revolution of Consciousness advances, the Integration of our Being begins. We experience that all these sparks, which are currently trapped in the legion, are freed and integrated to achieve Sacred Individuality, since in the end all of them will be a Unity.
The Issue of Attachments
What are we attached to? Why do we believe that being attached is being in love? What are our attachments based on? As studied in the Conference on Non-Identification with the things of daily life, we can see that all attachments originate in fear, that the Devil disguises himself as love through attachment. This issue of attachment is terrible. It ends up delaying and even paralyzing the possibility of Self-Realization if we do not understand it perfectly.
A man and a woman unite, and the first thing they look for is a roof over their heads. Then they start filling it with furniture, and later they settle permanently. Afterward come the children, properties, possessions, and thousands of other trivialities. We become attached to all comforts. We suffer at the thought of losing them; we think about what our life would be like without them; we feel ourselves in things and people, we have become accustomed to them. We don't want to be uncomfortable. We feel that it cost us a lot of work. We think that being without them would be like regressing. We worry about what others will say, what others will think, etc. When have you seen a funeral where the deceased's furniture and belongings are taken away?
We feel we own our children, our wives, our husbands, and this prevents us from seeing the reality of things. The fleeting nature of all things and circumstances in life. The truth is that each of our children must learn to stand on their own. That each of them will reach youth and begin their own path. That our responsibility is to care for them until they develop and form their own homes.
But the most interesting thing happens when a person learns to consciously astral project and discovers that they have no real physical family. There, they would forget about that. And if they were asked: “who are all the sparks on the planet?” they would say that they are all their sisters and brothers, because they all form the same thing as them, the Great Family of the inhabitants of Planet Earth.
Then, with that Consciousness, one would say: “Well then… who is my mother?”. She is a sister, someone who helped me to have my physical body, which I owed her. “Who is my father?”. The same. “Who are my children?”. People to whom I have to pay something I owed them, and so on. They gave me a body before, and now I give them a body; it’s that simple. When life begins to be seen this way, we can start to bring about great changes in our psychology.
Let's study this a little more: when a person dies, after approximately three months, they carry out the process of detachment from their family, and forget all of this. They continue living in their inner world. There they develop perfectly, in the world of the Soul. If they are conscious, they can continue living consciously. If they are asleep, they will live hypnotized in that inner world, waiting to be given another physical body to return to planet Earth.
A serious problem in Esotericism is attachment. When working in the inner world, one must go through tests. And tests are either won or lost. If one is very attached, they generally lose the tests. It is necessary to understand the conflict that exists with family and attachments, to have it very clear, very well understood, so as not to get stuck in the work.
For example, when it comes to deciding between the Paths, the Direct Path or the Path of Nirvana, there is a serious conflict one goes through. Out of one thousand (1,000) initiates, only one chooses the Direct Path. The remaining nine hundred ninety-nine (999) take this Path of Nirvana due to attachment to the Root-defects. These defects prevent one from taking the Direct Path, cause problems, and lead to choosing the Path of Nirvana. But let's look at the physical plane with the true esoteric worker.
As a person awakens Consciousness through esoteric work, they begin to encounter the Lords of the Law daily. This is similar to a lawyer's routine, having to go to court several times a day, every day, because Karma is being negotiated. The Karma of seven existences is being paid. There are offenses so serious and Karmas so heavy that if they were to be charged, we would not be able to self-realize. Therefore, it is necessary to be negotiating daily.
At a certain moment, Master Anubis may appear and tell us: “look, such and such karma is coming your way, you have to negotiate it in this manner.” And one could respond: “okay, let's do that.” But no. I’m going to give an example of one of our companions: One night, in the astral world, he encountered Anubis, who tells him: “look, a karma for pride is coming your way, and you are due for leprosy.” He responded: “Can I negotiate it?” – “Yes, you will go to Brazil in two months to find a brother.” The man arrived in the physical plane, paused, confused, and thought: my wife, my children, the children's school, my house, my farm, my conference rooms, my colleagues, my comforts, my friends, my language, my money, my income, etc. How am I going to go there! The reality is that he sought Anubis and told him: “I'm not going, send me the leprosy.” Two months later, his family took him to be admitted to Agua de Dios (a sanatorium for lepers in Colombia); he was admitted there for fifteen years. The man decided to pay with pain. Two months later he had no wife, no children, no car, no house, no farm. If he had gone to do his work, he would not have suffered so much, but his attachment to his things terribly sank him. There are many similar cases. When family is more important than the Work, there is no possibility of passing any test. It is important, then, that everyone attempting the self-realization of the Being reflect and understand the true position of each thing.
All the values that society has given to the family repeat the structure of society itself. When human beings were nomads, traveling all over the planet, we moved, we were not rooted in one place. If we understand this, we will be able to do the work in a single existence, we will be able to move forward when we have to make decisions.
There are four trials that are relentlessly put before us when we are doing this work. These are the trials of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. No one would pass the trials of Air if they have attachments. Every time we are internally thrown into an abyss and we scream, that scream is an unequivocal symptom of an attachment. Attachment to the physical body, attachment to this, attachment to that, to a child, to a thing, etc. And the Masters make us see it internally by throwing us from above. Then we feel the terror of losing and we scream.
If we were aware that every time we buy one more ornament for the house, we divide and fraction our love, and that when we are seeking self-realization we are integrating love, we would not need to discard the house or get rid of it, but rather understand why we want it in the way we want it.
If we manage to do this, we will not need to divest ourselves of the family. The family is a duty. But we must know the extent of duties and rights within the family to be able to consciously advance in the integration of the Real Family and the disintegration of the psychological family.
