LIFE AND THE LEVEL OF BEING

Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? What do we live for? Why do we live?... Undoubtedly, the poor "Intellectual Animal" mistakenly called man, not only does not know, but also does not even know that he does not know...
The worst of all is the difficult and strange situation we find ourselves in, we ignore the secret of all our tragedies and yet we are convinced that we know everything...
Take a "Rational Mammal", a person who presumes to be influential in life, to the center of the SAHARA desert, leave them there far from any Oasis and observe everything that happens from an airship...
The facts will speak for themselves; the "Intellectual Humanoid" although presumed to be strong and believes himself to be very much a man, is actually frighteningly weak at heart...
The "Rational Animal" is one hundred percent foolish; thinks the best of himself; believes that he can develop wonderfully through early education, Manuals of Civility, Elementary, Secondary, High School, University, the good prestige of the father, etc.
Unfortunately, after so many letters and good manners and money, we well know that any physical discomfort affects us and that deep down we continue to be unhappy and miserable...
It is enough to read Universal History to know that we are the same barbarians as before and that instead of improving we have become worse...
This 21st (XXI) century with all its spectacularity, wars, worldwide prostitution, sodomy, sexual degeneration, drugs, alcohol, exorbitant cruelty, extreme perversity, monstrosity, etc. is the mirror in which we must look at ourselves; there is no compelling reason to boast of having reached a higher stage of development...
Thinking that time means progress is absurd, unfortunately the "enlightened ignorants" continue bottled in the Dogma of Evolution...
On all the black pages of "Black History" we always find the same horrible cruelties, ambitions, wars, etc…
However, our Super-civilized contemporaries are still convinced that war is something secondary, a passing accident that has nothing to do with their presumed modern civilization.
Certainly what matters is the way of being of each person; some subjects will be drunkards, others abstainers, some honest and others scoundrels; there is everything in life...
The mass is the sum of the individuals; what the individual is, is the mass, is the Government, etc…
The mass is therefore the extension of the individual; the transformation of the masses, of the peoples, is not possible if the individual, if each person, does not transform...
No one can deny that there are different social levels; there are people from the church and the brothel, from commerce and the countryside, etc.
Likewise, there are different Levels of Being. What we are internally, splendid or petty, generous or stingy, violent or peaceful, chaste or lustful, attracts the various circumstances of life...
A lustful person will always attract scenes, dramas, and even tragedies of lewdness in which they will be involved...
A drunkard will attract drunkards and will always be found in bars and cantinas, that is obvious...
What will the usurer attract? The selfish person? How many problems? Prisons? Misfortunes?
However, bitter people, tired of suffering, want to change, to turn the page of their history...
Poor people! They want to change and don't know how; they don't know the procedure; they are stuck in a dead end...
What happened to them yesterday happens to them today and will happen to them tomorrow; they always repeat the same mistakes and do not learn the lessons of life, even with cannons.
All things repeat in their own life; they say the same things, do the same things, regret the same things...
This boring repetition of dramas, comedies, and tragedies will continue as long as we carry within us the undesirable elements of Anger, Greed, Lust, Envy, Pride, Laziness, Gluttony, etc., etc., etc...
What is our moral level?, or better said: What is our Level of Being?
As long as the Level of Being does not radically change, the repetition of all our miseries, scenes, misfortunes and misfortunes will continue...
All things, all circumstances, that happen outside of us, on the stage of this world, are exclusively a reflection of what we carry internally.
We can solemnly assert with good reason that the "exterior is a reflection of the interior."
When one changes internally and such change is radical, the exterior, the circumstances, life, also change.
It has been possible to observe during this time (year 1974), a group of people who invaded someone else's land. In Mexico, such people receive the curious title of "Illegal Occupants."
They are neighbors of the Campestre Churubusco neighborhood. Being poor can never be a crime, but the serious thing is not that, but their Level of Being...
They fight among themselves daily, get drunk, insult each other, become murderers of their own unfortunate companions, and certainly live in filthy huts within which, instead of love, hatred reigns...
If any subject were to eliminate from within themselves hatred, anger, lust, drunkenness, slander, cruelty, selfishness, defamation, envy, self-love, pride, etc., etc., etc., they would be pleasing to other people, they would associate by simple Law of Psychological Affinities with more refined, more spiritual people; these new relationships would be definitive for an economic and social change...
That would be the system that would allow such a subject to abandon the pigsty, the filthy sewer...
So, if we really want radical change, what we must first understand is that each of us (whether white or black, yellow or brown, ignorant or enlightened, etc.) is at such and such a Level of Being.
What is our Level of Being? Have you ever reflected on that? It would not be possible to move to another level if we ignore the state we are in.
We have to yearn for a true change, to get out of this boring routine, of this merely mechanistic, tiresome life...
The first thing we must understand with complete clarity is that each of us, whether bourgeois or proletarian, well-off or middle class, rich or miserable, is really at such and such a Level of Being...
The Level of Being of the drunkard is different from that of the abstainer, and that of the prostitute very different from that of the maiden. What we are saying is irrefutable, unanswerable...
As we reach this part of our chapter, we lose nothing by imagining a staircase that extends from bottom to top, vertically and with many steps...
Undoubtedly, we find ourselves on one of these steps; there will be people worse than us on the steps below; on the steps above there will be people better than us...
In this extraordinary Vertical, in this Wonderful Staircase, it is clear that we can find all the Levels of Being... each person is different and no one can refute this…
Undoubtedly we are not now talking about ugly or pretty faces, nor is it a question of ages. There are young and old people, old people who are about to die and newborn children...
The question of time and years; that of being born, growing, developing, marrying, reproducing, aging and dying, is exclusive to the Horizontal...
In the "Wonderful Staircase", in the Vertical the concept of time does not fit. On the steps of such a scale we can only find Levels of Being...
The mechanical hope of the people is useless; they believe that with time things will be better; that's what our grandparents and great-grandparents thought; the facts have precisely come to demonstrate the opposite...
The Level of Being is what counts and this is Vertical; we find ourselves on one step, but we can go up a step...
The "Wonderful Ladder" that we are talking about and that refers to the different Levels of Being, certainly has nothing to do with linear time...
A higher Level of Being is immediately above us from moment to moment...
It is not in any remote horizontal future, but here and now; within ourselves; in the Vertical...
It is ostensible and anyone can understand that the two lines—Horizontal and Vertical—meet from moment to moment in our Psychological interior and form a Cross...
The personality develops and unfolds on the Horizontal line of Life. It is born and dies within its linear time; it is perishable; there is no tomorrow for the personality of the dead; it is not the Being...
The Levels of Being; Being itself, is not of time, has nothing to do with the Horizontal Line; it is found within ourselves. Now, in the Vertical...
It would be manifestly absurd to look for our own Being outside of ourselves...
It is worth stating the following as a corollary: Titles, degrees, promotions, etc., in the external physical world, would in no way originate authentic exaltation, reevaluation of the Self, or a step to a higher level in the Levels of Being...
It doesn't hurt to remind our readers that there is a mathematical point within ourselves...
Undoubtedly, that point is never in the past, nor in the future...
Whoever wants to discover that mysterious point must look for it here and now, within themselves, exactly at this instant, not a second forward, not a second back...
The two sticks, Vertical and Horizontal, of the Holy Cross meet at this point...
We find ourselves, then, from moment to moment before two paths: the Horizontal and the Vertical...
It is obvious that the Horizontal is very common, it is the path most people take...
It is evident that the Vertical is different; it is the path of intelligent rebels, that of Revolutionaries...
When one remembers oneself, when one works on oneself, when one does not identify with all the problems and sorrows of life, in fact, one goes along the Vertical Path...
Certainly it is never an easy task to eliminate negative emotions; to lose all identification with our own way of life; problems of all kinds, business, debts, payment of bills, mortgages, telephone, water, electricity, etc., etc., etc.
The unemployed, those who for one reason or another have lost their job, evidently suffer from lack of money and forgetting their case, not worrying, or identifying with their own problem, is in fact frighteningly difficult.
Those who suffer, those who cry, those who have been victims of betrayal, of a bad payment in life, of ingratitude, of slander, or of some fraud, really forget themselves, their Real Inner Being, they identify completely with their moral tragedy...
The Work on oneself is the fundamental characteristic of the Vertical Path. No one could tread the Path of the Great Rebellion, if they never worked on themselves...
The work we are referring to is Psychological in nature; it deals with a certain transformation of the present moment in which we find ourselves. We need to learn to live from moment to moment...
For example: a person who is desperate because of some sentimental, economic or political problem, has obviously forgotten himself...
If such a person stops for a moment, if he observes the situation and tries to remember himself and then strives to understand the meaning of his attitude...
If you reflect a little, if you think about how everything passes; that life is illusory, fleeting, and that death reduces all the vanities of the world to ashes...
If you understand that your problem is ultimately nothing more than a passing problem, a will-o'-the-wisp that soon goes out, you will suddenly see with surprise that everything has changed...
Transforming mechanical reactions is possible through logical confrontation and the Intimate Self-reflection of the Being...
It is evident that people react mechanically to the various circumstances of life...
Poor people! They always tend to become victims. When someone flatters them, they smile; when they humiliate them, they suffer. They insult if they are insulted; they wound if they are wounded; they are never free; their fellow human beings have the power to take them from joy to sadness, from hope to despair.
Each of those people who go along the Horizontal Path is like a musical instrument, where each of their fellow human beings plays whatever they want...
Whoever learns to transform mechanical reactions, in fact, enters the "Vertical Path." This represents a fundamental change in the Level of Being, an extraordinary result of "Psychological Rebellion."
